Grant Writing Seminar

There are many grants available to non-profit organisations and local community groups including grants from State and Federal government and local government grant programs. With limited staff and time-poor volunteers, community groups often do not have the time or resources to dedicate to applying for grants.  So how do you decide which ones are the best? Where is the best place to invest the organisation’s precious time?

The first question to ask is “Are we grant ready?”  Many organisations falter in their funding applications due to a lack of preparation, project clarity, defined outcomes and aligning their project with the outcomes sought from the funding body.

Hepburn Shire Council’s Grants Specialist, Jarrod Hodgson, will be hosting this fun and practical grant writing training session that will help to set the foundations from which your organisation can be ready to apply for any grant efficiently and effectively.  It will give you the confidence and tools to apply strategies which will give you the best chance of writing a successful application to a variety of funding bodies. Jarrod will demonstrate methods for identifying appropriate grants and tips on developing your application.

This workshop is timely as Hepburn Shire Council’s Community Grants program is open for applications until January 31.  So if you’re from a community group with a project idea, this grant workshop will be the perfect place to refine your application and obtain some grant writing skills to help get your project funded.

DNC Joke of The Week

An elderly gentleman walked into the bank and stood in the queue.  When it was his turn he handed his bank card to a bank teller and said, “I would like to withdraw two dollars.”

The teller told him “For withdrawals less than 100 dollars please use the ATM.”

The old man wanted to know the reason for this.

The teller returned his bank card and told him “These are the bank’s rules. And rules are rules.  Now sir, please leave if there is nothing else I can help you with, there is a queue behind you and you will find the ATM outside”.

The old man remained silent for a few seconds, then handed the card back to the teller and said “Yes can I withdraw all my money please?”

The teller was astonished when she checked the account balance.  She shook her head, leaned over and whispered “But sir you have 80,000 dollars in your account and the bank doesn’t have that much cash currently.  Could you make an appointment and come back tomorrow?”

The old man then asked “How much can I withdraw today?”

The teller told him any amount up to 5,000 dollars.

“Well, you’d better give me 5,000 dollars just now”.  The teller then handed it very cheerfully and respectfully to him.

The old man put two dollars in his wallet, stood for a couple of seconds, before asking the teller to deposit 4,998 dollars back into his account.
