This week, we were delighted to receive a donation from the Timbeck Charitable Trust.  The donation was to the tune of $2,000, as a contribution towards our shower and laundry facility for the homeless and needy of Daylesford.

Our shower/laundry facility is now completed and has been operational for several weeks as reported in The Wombat Post. The shower facility is currently being used quite regularly and is gaining momentum with word spreading locally about its availability.  It is obviously a facility that has been much needed, but the issue came to a head last year when we had a young homeless person living on our doorstep for several months over the cold winter months.  He had actually cancelled medical appointments because he felt self-conscious about his personal hygiene.   Thankfully, our facility is assisting people like this.  The generous donation from the Timbeck Charitable Trust will assist with ongoing costs, purchasing supplies, cleaning and maintenance and so much more.  Moving forward, we may even be able to offer food vouchers to those in need.  The donation will certainly be put to good use, and we are very grateful as an organisation for their kind offer.

Indigenous Garden

As we begin Reconciliation Week, it is appropriate to highlight DNC’s Indigenous Garden.

Plants were sourced last year from an indigenous garden centre.  260 plants have been planted already, with a further 100 received.  The current season is not conducive to plant growth, but we look forward to the growth spurt next spring to change the surrounds of our Centre.  We are grateful to our wonderful volunteers Diane, Robin, Jeremy and Poppy for their contribution.

While on the topic of things botanical, we are participating in the Central Highlands Rural Health Grow 2 Mow program supporting Daylesford Secondary College to promote student self-esteem, confidence, and emotional intelligence and improve their overall mental well-being through hands-on learning outside the classroom.

Introduction to Aromatherapy is returning to DNC for Term 3!

In this 5-week course you will learn how reflex points in the feet or hands can affect other parts of the body and how working on the feet can induce a state of calm.  There will be theory and hands-on training.  You may want to improve and build your skills and knowledge as an already-qualified therapist or you may be looking at going on to study massage or beauty therapy.  Upon successful completion of this course, participants will have an understanding of:

  • the reflexology and spa industry
  • some foot reflexology techniques
  • some hand reflexology techniques
  • the structure of the foot
  • the structure of the hand
  • various body systems and how reflexology can support these systems

This course will give participants the basis for taking the next step in the massage industry with any of the following courses:

  • Certificate IV in Massage Therapy – HLT42015
  • Diploma of Remedial Massage – HLT52015
  • Diploma of Aromatherapy – HLT52315
  • Diploma of Reflexology – HLT52515

DNC Joke of the Week

Eleven people were hanging on a rope under a helicopter – 10 men and 1 woman.

The rope was not strong enough to carry them all, so they decided that one had to leave, because otherwise they were all going to fall.

They weren’t able to choose that person, until the woman gave a very touching speech.

She said that she would voluntarily let go of the rope, because, as a woman, she was used to giving up everything for her husband and kids or for men in general, and was used to always making sacrifices with little in return.

As soon as she finished her speech, all the men started clapping…
