The Great Dividing Trail Association, based in Daylesford, has published a new bushwalking and mountain biking booklet, Central Victorian Highlands Walk and Ride Circuits. The guide includes 20 walks and 10 rides at all points of the compass within a 25 km radius of Daylesford.
The 82 page booklet is A5 format, coil bound and printed in full colour on high quality paper. Each of the circuits is supported by large scale contour maps, elevation profiles and detailed accompanying track notes on the facing page.
The guide is the realisation of GDTA founding Treasurer, Pat Hope. Pat argued for a change in focus from long linear trails, like the Goldfields Track and the Lerderderg Track, to shorter, more family friendly circuits that started and finished at the same point and avoided the inconvenience of a car shuttle. This vision has been realised in this new booklet. The short circuit walks and rides detailed in the guide take only about a half day and will suit all ages and abilities.
Patron of the GDTA, John Landy, AC, endorsed the booklet. “For many years, the Great Dividing Trail Association has built pathways that lead people into the great outdoors, whether for physical exercise or simply to refresh the spirit through contact with the natural world. This new guide to shorter circuit walks and rides around Daylesford has the same high quality production that won awards for the GDTA’s Goldfelds Track Walk or Ride Guide. It will be a welcome addition to the packs of locals and visitors alike.”
The booklet was made possible by a generous grant from the Community Bank Daylesford and District. “We’re very grateful to the Bank for supporting our organisation. Their support for the GDTA and for other organisations in the community makes great things possible,” said GDTA President, Gib Wettenhall. “We hope the guide will prove popular and will encourage many more people to venture out of town and break fresh ground.”
The Circuits booklet, which retails for $24.99, is available is available from the GDTA on-line shop and from the Daylesford Tourist Information Centre.
