Hilary Joy Brown
Where are the Guardians of the soul’s medallion
Black crow
Eating at the eye sockets
of wisdom’s passage
where all the bright berries of autumn
Take down the banquet
To the ground
Why
Gateway Bird
Does your craw
Empty its din
Into silence?
Where are the Guardians?
Those bright and shining ones
Who stare down the barrel
of eternity
In what place are they reclining now
Gorging on the fruits
Of material comfort?
Why
Gateway Bird
Have the Guardians
Deserted you?
Left you empty
Crawless
Lost in the silence
That has emptied
the void
of all knowledge
And deserted us
In canyons of
intellectual persuasion.
