Filming of The Block 2025 has officially wrapped in Daylesford, bringing an end to months of local buzz, media attention and behind-the-scenes activity in our normally quiet town. With the air date for the first episode anticipated in August, residents and real estate agents alike are already seeing the ripple effects of the show’s presence.
The 21st season of the hit renovation series was filmed at the eastern entrance to town, within the new Middleton Field housing estate developed by Hygge Property. Over several months, contestants transformed five homes into architecturally styled residences, creating a new micro-neighbourhood in the process.
Production plans were shelved last year amid community opposition and the show moved to Phillip Island. An application to VCAT by objectors to overturn Council approval for the development was thwarted when the Minister, Sonya Kilkenny called in the application and provided approval asetting the scene for the 2025 season.
Local real estate professionals are already reporting increased interest in Daylesford properties. Will Walton, principal of Belle Property Daylesford, said that homes under $1 million have been selling quickly, particularly to young families and first-home buyers looking for a lifestyle change. Kim McQueen of McQueen Real Estate, who is handling the sale of one of The Block houses, said May was her busiest month in a year, indicating that interest is translating into sales. While some vendors are curious about the show’s impact on prices, agents suggest the overall effect is positive, particularly in drawing attention to the town’s charm.
Beyond the property market, local businesses and community groups have also benefitted. Cast and crew were visible around town, attending football games, frequenting local venues, and contributing to local causes. One notable project in which the contestants were involved was fitting out the shell of the shell of the cinema in the Rex which had been gathering dust since the Hepburn Hub at The Rex project was abandoned in 2018.
The season’s final day of filming was marked by social media tributes from long-time Block foreman Dan Reilly and judge Marty Fox. Reilly described the series as having “the best team spirit you could ask for” and hinted that it may be the show’s best season yet.
From a production standpoint, the build extended slightly longer than previous years, suggesting a particularly ambitious season. Final facades feature a mix of brick, timber and modern cladding, offering a diverse streetscape that is currently only partially visible to passers-by. Only a select few locals have had an opportunity to tour the nearly completed homes.
With the series now in post-production, all eyes are on the broadcast later this year—and on the auctions, which have become a signature finale of the show. In the meantime, Daylesford enjoys a moment in the national spotlight, with lasting benefits still to unfold.
