WIW, now in its 24th year, officially opens on Friday August 22nd and runs across two weekends, reflecting the amount of participants that applied to be part of it this year. WIW first weekend commences on Friday 22nd August through to Sunday 24th. August. The encore weekend is from Friday 29th. August to Sunday August 31st. HEP FM 88.0 had the opportunity to interview two of the participants on radio recently talking about their events. You can connect to the podcast of the interview at the end of this article.
Heather Robinson and John Long, became residents of Daylesford just on a year ago and are both very excited to be part of WIW this year. Heather has also been part of the organising committee which she said has helped her to settle into Daylesford and get to know a few more of the locals.
Heather’s event is titled Light In The Dark and is done in conjunction with Jade Lillie both of whom are cultural writers and thinkers. They will explore what cultural value means to communities and our way of life. Heather will also be launching her new book Beyond the Books: Culture, Value, and Why Libraries Matter. This event also includes a glass of bubbles and nibbles.
John’s event Living with Sharks is done in conjunction with Tanya Loos, another local resident. John is an author and palaeontologist who has worked in museums and universities across Australia and the USA. He often writes for The Conversation and has written 26 books covering sharks, dinosaurs, evolution, the origins of sex and expeditions to Antarctica. The Secret History of Sharks is his latest book.
