Fundraising Banquet for Rex Restoration Campaign

A rare chance to hear one of Australia’s outstanding filmmakers, Daylesford’s  Richard Keddie, is coming soon. He will be guest speaker at a fund-raising banquet for the Rex restoration campaign.

The dinner is on Saturday, March 22,  Victoria Park Pavilion, Ballan—Daylesford Road.

A writer, director and producer, two of Richard’s films, `Little Fish’ and `Ride Like A Girl’ are Australia’s highest grossing box office successes. He co-produced the feature documentary ‘Alias Ruby Blade’, which won the Cinema For Peace Most Valuable Documentary Prize at the Berlin Film Festival.

Earlier, he produced a string of successful TV dramas, including `Hawke’, winner of top Australian awards, including Best Telemovie/Mini-Series. His `My Brother Jack’ was voted Best TV Mini-Series. `After The Deluge’, was a double award winner, while `Waiting At The Royal’ won the Rockie Award at the Banff TV Festival for Best Telemovie.  Richard also produced the feature `Matching Jack’ which won Best Film at the Milan Film Festival.

In his campaign and documentary work as a writer-director he has made more than 300 social justice, environmental and political TV commercials, including today’s `Thrive by Five’ Campaign, which has raised more than $30 billion dollars in government funding for Early Learning and Childcare. Other campaigning work includes the efforts to save the Great Barrier Reef; the South Australian work to save the Coorong and lower reaches of the Murray River, and the `Your Rights At Work’ campaign for the ACTU, which is credited with ending the Howard Government.

He was awarded the UN Media Peace Prize for his SBS film `Rite of Passage’ about young unemployed people. Richard’s TV documentaries range from politicians to a family living with adult disability, women’s netball to `Musica Surfica’, with Richard Tognetti from the Australian Chamber Orchestra, winner of many awards around the world.

He is now making a documentary about the late great satirist John Clarke.

The evening features a sumptuous seven-course Indian banquet, a “not-so-silent auction,”  and raffles.

The chef is Raman Richards, who moved here 16 months ago only to be almost overwhelmed when he asked on Facebook where to buy local produce. Before long he had befriended fruit shop owners, butchers and food producers.

His mother,  Puja Kumari, has decades of experience running award winning restaurants. Through her recipes Ruman linked up with residents with both large properties and small units.

People then asked for his recipes. This led to him cooking for 18 hours, then delivering meals across the Shire. His takeaways became a ritual for some.

He is also a volunteer IT worker for Beyond Blue and has connected with local groups, such as the Good Grub Club and the 5000 Club.

Guests are asked to arrive at 6.45pm for the banquet at 7.15pm. Soft drinks, beer and wine may be bought. Tickets are $70 per head.
