In times of crisis, the strength of a community is often defined by its ability to come together and respond quickly. The tragic accident at the Royal Hotel last year was stark reminder of how important our emergency services are and how all citizens in the community need to be prepared to lend a hand in a time of crisis.
When the unthinkable happens, it is our local volunteer firefighters, paramedics, police and support teams who are often the first on the scene. These volunteers, many of whom have day jobs and families, step up to face some of the most dangerous and emotionally taxing situations. Without them, the response to emergencies like the Royal Hotel tragedy would be severely hampered.
But the responsibility for community safety doesn’t end with the emergency services. The entire community plays a crucial role in preparedness. When everyone is equipped with basic knowledge about emergency procedures—whether it’s knowing basic first aid, knowing about bushfire preparation or simply being aware of the potential risks in their area—the chances of minimising loss and damage are significantly improved.
To ensure you and your loved ones are prepared, visit the Daylesford Emergency Expo on October 19 from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm at Victoria Park, Daylesford. The event offers a opportunity to learn essential skills and connect with local emergency services.
Learn how to prepare your properties, families and animals for emergency events including fire, flood and storms. Engage with highly trained professional and volunteer responders who are dedicated to keeping our community safe. The expo will feature informative discussions and demonstrations on crucial topics such as basic CPR, home fire safety, and preparation strategies for bushfires, floods, and storms.
Attendees can explore emergency vehicles on display, witness a rescue team in action, and discover more about the rewarding opportunities available through volunteering with local services.
This free event has been organised by the SES, CFA, Victoria Police, Ambulance Victoria, the Red Cross and Hepburn Shire Council.
