Over 14 kilometres of the 17-kilometre Daylesford Water Supply Pipeline has been completed.
The pipeline runs along Kooroocheang Road, through Blampied, along the Midland Highway, through Hepburn Regional Park and Italian Hill powerline easements, as well as numerous road reserves and landowner easements.
The final 3 kilometres of pipeline installation will see a reduction of planned major works in the short-term with major asset connections and Midland Highway works to recommence in August.
Open trench work as well as trenchless technology has been employed to overcome the many geographical challenges of natural waterways, hillsides, and varied ground conditions including hard rock, for this significant project to progress.
Central Highlands Water has worked with its contractor, S&R Engineering and Construction to progress the pipeline connection from the Goldfields Superpipe Midlands Pump Station near Blampied to the Daylesford Water Treatment Plant.
Central Highlands Water’s Managing Director, Jeff Haydon said, “This is a substantial advancement in water infrastructure for Daylesford, providing a sustainable water network to meet the regions water security needs, with an expected life span of 100 years and a design capacity to provide more than 300 extra megalitres per annum of supplementary raw water,” Mr Haydon said.
The Daylesford Water Supply Project involves an integrated three part process of firstly installing the 17-kilometre water pipeline, followed by adding pump capacity at the current Goldfields Superpipe, Blampied pump station, and finally, Daylesford water treatment plant upgrades. Testing and commissioning of each part will be undertaken following construction.
“We acknowledge and appreciate the communities continued support and understanding during the past 18 months, with major works impacting the Midland Highway, as well as public and private landowners,” Mr Haydon said. “We will continue to work with the Hepburn Shire Council as well as cultural and environmental stakeholders,” he said.
