Council has adopted a masterplan to outline future improvements to Central Springs Reserve, a popular destination for locals and visitors, located at the southern end of Lake Daylesford. The masterplan provides a long-term vision to upgrade the site, which incorporates feedback from community members, user groups, DJARRA and government agencies.
Mayor, Cr Lesley Hewitt, said the well-loved reserve will benefit from upgrades over future years. “Central Springs Reserve is such a valuable asset for our community. The masterplan shows how we will improve the appearance and useability of this unique destination,” said Cr Hewitt. “It includes a plan to install better paths to help people enjoy the reserve and access the area, new furniture such as seating and benches, additional plantings and more.”
One of the main aims is to improve access in and around the reserve so it better caters for older people or those with accessibility needs.
Other improvements include:
- New carpark that meets Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) requirements,
- Improved paths around the reserve and to Lake Daylesford,
- Elevated walkways to provide viewing opportunities and protect important vegetation,
- Two potential locations identified for DDA compliant toilet,
- Improved setting of the mineral spring pumps to improve access, functionality and
presentation, - Open shelter which reflects the relationship of the site with Traditional Owners
- Information signs about the mineral spring pumps,
- Broad timber platforms under existing trees for groups and individuals, and
- Indigenous plantings.
“Central Springs Reserve is a beautiful place to meet with friends, exercise or relax. Over time and as budgets allow, we will make changes to enhance this area to make it even better,” said Cr Hewitt.
Council will seek government assistance to fund improvement projects.
