Council has adopted an Early and Middle Years Strategy titled “Starting Blocks”. The strategy aims to support children between 0 and 12 years in partnership with other agencies and the community.
Mayor, Cr Tim Drylie, said that the early years of a child’s life, particularly the first one thousand days, are the most significant from a growth and developmental perspective.
“The focus on early and middle years enables early intervention to ensure each child receives the best start in life and no child is left behind.”
“The inclusion of the middle years in this strategy recognises the challenges faced by young people as they head towards adolescence. While it’s not historically a focus of early intervention, we recognise that it is an important developmental phase of childhood,” said Cr Drylie.
The Early and Middle Years Strategy 2022-2030 outlines a vision where children who live in Hepburn Shire get the best start in life and go on to reach their potential.
“Thank you to everyone who worked to help develop our Early and Middle Years Strategy, in particular community members who provided their feedback on the draft plan. We look forward to working with families, government, community organisations and service agencies to achieve great outcomes for our community,” said Cr Drylie.
