Council has awarded contracts for footpath expansion and renewal across 10 locations in the Shire. Council is responding to community calls for better footpaths.
Works in Daylesford include Jamieson St between Trimble St and Westwood St, Stanbridge St between Duke St and Camp St and Vincent St near Ruthven St.
Across the Shire, the program is funding 1.46 kilometres of footpaths in 10 different locations during this financial year. In total, $270,000 has been budgeted for Stage 2 of the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program.
Contracts have been awarded in four packages to four separate contractors to make delivery more efficient. Contractors are expected to commence work between September and October and works will take approximately 4 weeks per package.
Other footpath expansion and renewal works will be completed in the townships of Creswick, Clunes and Trentham as part of the program. These works have been identified through a combination of review of actions in the Walking and Cycling Strategy, asset condition analysis and customer requests.
Safe and effective pedestrian networks increase the liveability and community activation in townships. Connected communities are less likely to rely on less sustainable forms of transport.
