Community members and residents impacted by the storm events throughout the year are invited to a free event hosted by Hepburn Shire Council on Thursday 25 November.
Along with a free barbecue meal, the evening is an opportunity to come together, see old and new friends, and also hear from clinical psychologist, Dr Rob Gordon Ph.D.
Mayor, Cr Lesley Hewitt, said Council has invited Dr Gordon along to share his expertise on helping people recovery from disasters. “Dr Gordon will be drawing on his 40 years’ experience working with survivors of traumatic events, disasters and work-related critical incidents,” said Cr Hewitt. “He has a depth of knowledge and a great deal of compassion about people’s experience of disaster as a result of his work stretching as far back as the Ash Wednesday fires in 1983,” she said.
Dr Gordon’s presentation will make for compelling listening as he explains the science and emotion of trauma and the various milestones and processes of recovery.
The event will be a chance for people to come together socially, catch up with friends and ask questions of an expert in dealing with the psychological trauma of disasters.
The event will be held on Thursday, November 25 at the Trentham Mechanics Institute, 66 High Street with the barbeque starting at 6:00pm followed by Dr Gordon’s session from 7.00pm to 8.30pm. The event is free but you must register on the Council website or by calling council on 5348 2306.
