The unfolding war in Ukraine has shocked civilised societies around the world.

Invading Soviet forces have displaced more than 5 million Ukrainian people and caused extreme suffering and death in the two months since the war began.

Christ Church Daylesford has launched an ongoing appeal in their parish to assist in providing relief and support to the people of Ukraine. The Parish has reached out to the Anglican Diocese in Europe.  Ukraine is part of the European diocese and and there is an Anglican parish in Kyiv.

Funds raised in the local appeal will be channelled to the Anglican Diocese in Europe.

The funds will be used to support chaplaincies in the immediate border areas of Ukraine in places like Poland and Hungary, who are working with individuals and families providing help, shelter, money and counselling. Chaplaincies further afield will also be supported as refugees head further west. Many of the chaplaincies are already under pressure because of the large number of refugees from Africa, the Middle East and other places who were already in these countries. The European diocese is also working with projects in Ukraine in partnership with Caritas International and the Lutheran World Foundation.

Christ Church is appealing to the wider community to support their fundraising. Offerings can be made directly by a special box in the church or funds can be donated by funds transfer to the Christ Church bank account (Account name: Anglican Parish of Daylesford; BSB: 633 000; Account: 165242702; Reference: Ukraine Appeal)
