World-renowned lutenist Jakob Lindberg returns to Daylesford
Christ Church Concerts is proud to present its second concert of the 2026 season, Celebrating the Genius of John Dowland, featuring the return of internationally acclaimed lutenist Jakob Lindberg. Marking the 400th anniversary of the death of John Dowland (1563–1626), widely regarded as Britain’s greatest Renaissance composer, this exceptional recital explores the emotional richness and complexity of his music. Audiences will experience a captivating program ranging from lively galliards to deeply expressive pavans and the dramatic intensity of Dowland’s chromatic fantasies.
Swedish-born Jakob Lindberg is recognised as one of the world’s foremost interpreters of Dowland’s music. He was the first lutenist to record Dowland’s complete works and has spent decades bringing this repertoire to life with extraordinary sensitivity and technical mastery. His performances are celebrated for their ability to convey the full spectrum of human emotion, earning him international acclaim.
Lindberg returns to Daylesford following his highly praised appearance in April 2024. His upcoming performance promises to be a highlight of the Australian chamber music calendar and a rare opportunity to hear one of the world’s finest lute players in an intimate setting.
Christ Church Concerts gratefully acknowledges the contribution of leading Australian lutenist Rosemary Hodgson, who has curated this program and facilitated Lindberg’s return to Australia. Hodgson, founder of the Melbourne International Lute Festival, will also welcome Lindberg as a guest artist for masterclasses and workshops as part of this year’s festival.
