Hepburn had a big win in the local Derby last weekend to retain the Bill Malone Cup. Hepburn led all day to finish 20.11-131 to Daylesford’s 4.4-28. Andrew McKay had a day out adding 5 goals to the 4 he kicked against Ballan last weekend. Billy Pedretti, Daniel O’Halloran and Ricky Ferraro added two each for the Burras. Michael Cummings kicked two for the Bulldogs.
Hepburn co-captain Jackson Hogan was awarded the Malone medal for best on ground. The medal and the cup are named after Bill Malone who was a brilliant footballer with Daylesford in the 1950s and early 1960s and played in the 1961 Daylesford premiership side. He then went on to coach Hepburn.
Hepburn Reserves also dominated with a 13.15-93 win over the Bulldogs Reserves (2.3-15). Daylesford can look to the future though with the under 18s winning 15.7-97 to 3.2-20, the under 15s winning 16.25-121 to 0.2-2 and the under 12s winning 4.6-30 to 0.-2.
In netball, Daylesford turned the tables with the A Grade side defeating Hepburn 55-29. Other Hepburn sides had a better day with B and C Grade teams and the under 15s and under 17s all posing winning scores.
Hepburn is at home to Dunnstown this weekend at the Laurie Sullivan oval. Daylesford is away at Clunes.
