On Wednesday 12 October, the Daylesford Neighbourhood Centre (DNC) conducted a free community Afternoon Tea, together with Belgravia Leisure at The Pavilion, Hepburn Springs.

The event was a huge success!  48 community members signed up to enjoy the music of Vida Jazz, and partake of an impressive array of afternoon-tea-appropriate foodstuffs, highlighted by a mountain of scones (and jam and cream, of course!)  The Afternoon Tea was a self service event and every effort was made to accommodate dietary requirements.  Claire from The Pavilion did an amazing job on the catering and she insisted that people take as many scones home as they wanted!

The event was organised to help promote community connectedness as well as to help showcase our local venues. All agreed it certainly achieved those goals.

One lady commented that it was the first “live” music she had heard in 2 years! People got up and danced to the music being performed.

Linda from DNC said the Afternoon Tea was a huge success – lots of happy faces, despite the weather.  She said feedback from the happy participants suggested that they’d like to see more similar community events.  Linda said consideration will be given to repeating the event, and perhaps to consider other activities, particularly for people who don’t go out at night. This was a great timeslot for a lot of such people.

Other possible activities were mooted:  The possibility of holding a “Singing Workshop” for beginners; Having guest speakers in to talk on a particular topic of interest; Promoting artists and upcoming exhibitions  using the Pavilion to promote it as an artist space; Q&A sessions; Community BBQs; An afternoon tea dance.

If the enthusiasm of those who enjoyed this inaugural Afternoon Tea is any measure, we might look forward to more such community ‘get-togethers’.
