Hepburn Cricket Club have won the Senior A Reserves Premiership in the Castlemaine District Cricket Association.
The Grand Final against Newstead CC started in ominous conditions at Wesley Hill Reserve in Castlemaine. Hepburn won the toss and batted in difficult conditions. They lost early wickets but Brayden Yanner (17*) and Wayne Robinson (26*) steadied the ship until the skies opened and forced players from the field. Conditions did not allow a resumption of play so Hepburn were declared premiers because they had finished on top of the ladder at the end of the regular season.
HCC are likely to field two senior sides next season. President Lindsey Olver said, “We had two under-16s sides last year that were so good, they wound up playing each other in the Grand Final. Some of those players played Seniors this year and more will follow next season so we think we can field two sides.”
The premiership side will be promoted to Senior A grade and another side is planned for C Grade.
Hepburn Cricket Club is also hoping to start a women’s side next year. Lucinda Lowe, a hand bowler who played in the under-16s premiership side this year, is keen to start a senior women’s side.
