Dear Editor,
Allan McLeod, my husband of 57 years, passed away from COVID 19, on 30th May, this year.
Frantic activity ensued, to pull together a eulogy that represented his life and paid tribute to his special qualities. The intensity of the moment left me very little capacity to assess whether I had honoured him sufficiently. The reality of my loss now accompanies me each day as I adjust my life.
Allan and I moved from Daylesford to Ballarat in 2020 to be closer to services, as he had been diagnosed with dementia. The past four years were challenging and difficult but most of all so, so sad as I watched my vibrant, intelligent and loving husband disintegrate before me.
As I reflected on the 28 years we lived in Daylesford I recognised the enormous role this township had played in Allan’s life. Daylesford provided Allan with the supportive community he sought and embraced. A socially aware man, Allan enjoyed his connections and interactions with the diverse local community. Over his time spent in Daylesford, support and friendship filled his life.
Allan rests in the Daylesford cemetery, returning to where his life was the most enriching.
I am grateful for our long marriage, encased in generosity and deep love, but I am also grateful to the Daylesford community and wanted each and every one of you to know how much Allan treasured the people he met and interacted with over our 28 years and to pass on his thanks and appreciation to everyone who touched his life.
Faye McLeod
