Donation From the Daylesford Bowling Club

This week DNC are grateful to receive Daylesford Bowling Club’s very generous donation of $785.   Neal Jordan, Manager of the Bowling Club, approached DNC to advise that we were nominated as the most recent recipients of their raffle takings.

The funds were presented to DNC’s Interim Coordinator, Linda Carroll, who advised that the donation is going toward supporting sports at The ARC.

“We are trying to make more sports accessible to a wider audience at The ARC and this kind donation will go a long way to assisting us in this endeavour,” said Lynda.

The DNC Committee of Management, staff and volunteers would like to express our gratitude to the Daylesford Bowling Club Committee of Management and staff, along with all the patrons who supported their recent raffles! It’s great to see such community spirit in our small town.

If you are interested in following the example set by the Bowling Club by giving a donation to help further Daylesford’s community activities, see our website https://www.dncentre.org.au/ or call us on 5348 3469.

Pickleball Anyone?

Pickleball is a racquet or “paddle sport” in which two players (singles) or four players (doubles) use a smooth-faced paddle to hit a perforated, hollow plastic ball over a 34-inch-high (0.86 m) net until one side is unable to return the ball or commits a rule infraction.  Pickleball is played indoors and outdoors. The game is a combination of tactical shots, patience, and easy-to-learn strokes.  It encourages an inclusive play environment with no need for modifications or adaptations to cater for gender, ability, or age differences.

“We are also working to make Pickleball a reality in the Shire,” said DNC interim manager, Lynda Carroll. “It’s very big overseas, but hasn’t quite got the momentum in Australia yet. We hope to change that because it’s a sport suitable for all ages.  Our community has a great facility in The ARC and we’d like to see it utilised more!”

One of the reasons Pickleball has become so popular is because anyone can play. You will see players from 5 years old to 90+ years old out on the court . Compared to other sports, there is a low (but never zero) chance of injury, a low cost, and it is not too physically strenuous.

We have games at The ARC every Sunday at 11.30am for $10.00 per person. No appointment required. Just rock up!

If you are interested in helping us ‘kick off’ Pickleball at The Arc or if you just want to try it out, call Wendy on 0458372906 or call us on 5348 3569.

DNC Joke of the Week

Bidding at a local auction was proceeding furiously when the auctioneer suddenly announced, “A gentleman in this room has lost a wallet containing $10,000.  If it is returned, he will pay a reward of $2,000.”

There was a moment’s silence, and then from the back of the room came the cry, “Two thousand five hundred!”

[If you’ve got a better joke, (and doesn’t everyone??) send it to  admin@dncentre.org.au  and we’ll publish it. (Remember, this is a family publication! 😊).  We’ll even include your name if you wish – or you can protect your anonymity!]
