A conversation with Barry Golding and Harley Dunolly-Lee will be a feature of NAIDOC week celebrations in Daylesford.
Barry is a well known local geologist and historian with extensive knowledge of pre-contact Indigenous culture and post-contact Aboriginal history. He is an Honourary Professor in the Institution of Arts, Education & Community at Federation University, Ballarat. He is currently working on a State Library of Victoria Fellowship writing a history of six of the local volcanic peaks which have great cultural importance to the Dja Dja Wurrung people.
He will be joined by Harley Dunolly-Lee, a PhD scholar, Dja Dja Wurrung descendant and Project Officer in Language Repatriation at DJAARA. Harley was born in Bendigo and is a proud and passionate Dja Dja Wurrung man. He has worked in conservation on his ancestor’s country in Native Parks & Natural Resource Management and Cultural Heritage. Harley has been working with Barry to unravel the meaning behind some of the poorly documented original names of the local volcanic peaks.
Harley and Barry will have a conversation about “Recovering Language and Connections to Dja Dja Wurrung Country.” They will explore and share local connections to Country through conversation about their respective research journeys and insights.
