Kate Redwood
Old age approaches like a thief in the night
Sliding in through the open window,
Climbing quietly under the bed covers,
When we are dreaming of good times past and future,
Standing behind us when we gaze lovingly
At photos of our children and grandchildren,
Scolding us when our bodies ache from too much or too little use.
Old age is always there when we can no longer do all we desire.
It causes us sadness when friends or families depart before their time,
But sometimes allows us great joy when we share an unexpected love.
We ignore old age, the intruder hiding behind the door, the wolf in sheep’s clothing,
The unwelcome guest who has quietly moved into the spare room
When we were not looking.
