COVID and lockdown has been an opportunity for Days for Girls Daylesford volunteers to keep busy sewing reusable menstrual kits for women and girls. So far in lockdown we have packed 190 kits which have been collected by World Vision Australia to be distributed in Timor Leste.

Days for Girls International is an award-winning NGO that is changing the status quo through quality menstrual care, health education, and income-generation opportunities.

By the end of the year 1.8 million women and girls in over 125 countries on six continents will have been provided with what they need to manage their periods humanely.

Instead of being secluded for days each month, unable to attend school or work, the hygiene kits assist women and girls to break the cycle of poverty and live lives of dignity. Those days add up to 8 months of a woman’s life!

Our team of twenty volunteers (always looking for new recruits) is proud to be part of this organization and to make a difference, helping one girl at a time to become more independent. Days for Girls also supports local leaders in low-income countries to produce and sell Days for Girls Kits and to provide women’s health education.

When not in lockdown the Daylesford group meets on the first Sunday of the month.

If you would like to hear more about how it all began, the Rotary Club of Box Hill recently hosted a breakfast meeting with Celeste Mergens, the founder of DFG as their guest speaker.  Here is the link to her presentation. https://youtu.be/ef7nrW_WiOU)
