Daylesford Conversations: Rethinking our pools
Hepburn Shire’s outdoor swimming pools have served the community for generations—but with ageing infrastructure, rising maintenance costs, and limited seasonal use, serious questions are being asked about their future. The Shire currently spends around $1 million annually to keep the pools open for just a few months each year, with each swim costing ratepayers an estimated $20 in subsidies. Is this model still sustainable? Should we be planning for a modern, year-round indoor aquatic facility that better meets community needs?
Join The Wombat Post and Daylesford Rotary for a timely panel discussion as part of their Community Conversations series. Panellists include Hepburn Shire Deputy Mayor Cr Lesley Hewitt, Council CEO Bradley Thomas, and Wombat Post Editor Tim Bach. The session will explore the financial and social challenges of maintaining the current pool network, the possibilities for future investment, and how the community can help shape the way forward.
