The Victorian Government has unveiled the Plan for Victoria, a long-term strategic framework guiding the state’s growth and development through to 2051. The plan aligns closely with Hepburn Shire Council’s Future Hepburn strategies, which focus on sustainable growth, community development, and environmental protection.

A key feature of the plan is its emphasis on managing growth within town boundaries while safeguarding valuable farming land. This approach mirrors Hepburn Shire’s planning principles, ensuring development occurs in a controlled and sustainable manner.

The plan sets a housing target of 3,150 new homes in the Shire over the next 25 years, a figure that aligns with Council’s own projections. This target aims to balance the region’s growth with the need for infrastructure and services to support new residents.

Additionally, the Plan for Victoria highlights the importance of integrating Dja Dja Wurrung cultural knowledge into future planning. By incorporating traditional knowledge on land management and conservation, the plan seeks to enhance environmental stewardship and community connections.

Addressing housing affordability is another key aspect of the plan. With short-stay rentals making up 11% of Hepburn Shire’s housing stock, Council is advocating for a fair share of the State Government’s Short Stay Levy to be reinvested locally, ensuring the development of social and affordable housing.

Hepburn Shire Council will collaborate with the Victorian Government to implement these strategies, ensuring a sustainable and prosperous future for the region.
