Renowned Filmmaker Richard Keddie to Speak at Rex Fundraiser
Film enthusiasts and supporters of the “Phoenix at the Rex” campaign are in for a treat as acclaimed Australian filmmaker Richard Keddie takes centre stage at a special fundraising banquet. The event will be held on Saturday, March 22, at Victoria Park Pavilion, Ballan-Daylesford Road.
Keddie, a Daylesford local, has an impressive career as a writer, director, and producer. His films Little Fish and Ride Like A Girl are among Australia’s highest-grossing box office successes. His co-produced documentary Alias Ruby Blade won the Cinema For Peace Most Valuable Documentary Prize at the Berlin Film Festival. Keddie has also been recognized for his outstanding work in television, producing award-winning mini-series such as Hawke, My Brother Jack, and After The Deluge.
Beyond entertainment, Keddie has made significant contributions to social justice and environmental campaigns. He has produced more than 300 TV commercials advocating for causes like early childhood education funding, environmental conservation, and workers’ rights. His SBS film Rite of Passage earned him the UN Media Peace Prize.
The evening will feature a lavish seven-course Indian banquet, curated by local chef Raman Richards. Since moving to the area 16 months ago, Raman has built strong ties with local food producers, making his takeaway meals a staple for many residents. His mother, Puja Kumari, a seasoned restaurateur, has contributed her expertise to the menu, ensuring an unforgettable dining experience.
In addition to the dinner, attendees can participate in a “not-so-silent” auction and raffles, adding an element of excitement to the night.
