HELP US LIGHT THE FUSE: Volunteers Wanted for New Daylesford Youth Space
Daylesford Neighbourhood Centre is preparing to launch FUSE – a welcoming new youth space where local young people aged 12–17 can relax, connect, be creative and feel part of their community. We are excited to welcome Noah to the DNC team – Noah is an experienced youth worker who will join us one day a week to lead FUSE and support local young people. They will be assisted by community volunteers who can help create the relaxed, friendly and welcoming atmosphere we want FUSE to be known for.
Funded through VicHealth’s Growing Healthy Communities program, FUSE stands for Food. Unity. Sustainability. Empowerment. The program will strengthen the connection between the Daylesford Arts & Recreation Centre (The ARC), the Paddock Project and the Good Grub Club, giving young people opportunities to learn where food comes from, grow and cook fresh food, share meals and develop practical skills.
FUSE will commence in Term 4 at the ARC, offering young people a safe and inclusive place to spend time outside school hours, to meet new people and to take part in activities shaped by their own interests. Whether they want to create, play games, cook, share a meal or simply have somewhere comfortable to be, FUSE will be a space where every young person is welcome.
We are looking for warm, reliable and open-minded people who genuinely enjoy spending time with young people. Volunteers might help prepare food, support cooking or gardening activities, set up the space, welcome participants, share a practical or creative skill, or simply be another trusted and encouraging adult in the room.
You don’t need to be a youth worker or have any special talents. What matters most is patience, kindness, consistency and a willingness to listen. Support, guidance and appropriate checks will be provided. We would also love to hear from local artists, musicians, makers, gamers, gardeners, cooks and other community members who may be interested in running an activity or sharing their skills.
FUSE is about much more than filling an afternoon. It is about giving young people somewhere they belong, adults they can trust and opportunities to build confidence, connections and practical skills.
