Last week DNC saw the departure of long-time Manager, Danny Liversidge, with staff member Linda Carroll now stepping in temporarily to fill the vacancy.  Linda was DNC’s Community Engagement/Events Coordinator/Digital Marketing person and is now adding the title Interim Coordinator to her list!   Linda has been with DNC for almost 6 years so has a strong understanding of all things DNC.   Linda has a few ideas about projects and working with other community groups and is a little bit excited about the next chapter!

New Project – The Coat Rack

DNC is excited to introduce a new project to help the disadvantaged in our community.  It’s called “The Coat Rack” project.     We are looking for a clothes rack that can be left outside, with hangers, in the hope that members of the public might be able to drop off their spare winter coats.  The coats would be donated for those who might be in need.

Linda says, “We have a sheltered spot out front where we can leave the rack, and so anyone who is in need of a warm coat, can simply pop up and grab one. Our local OpShops all close at around 4-5pm and are not all open every day.  So this will give our homeless and vulnerable community another option if they are in need of a warm jacket.   It will be a welcome complement to our shower and laundry facility.  Once we have the clothes rack, we’ll put the call out for donations of winter jackets.  We know our community is great when it comes to helping with donated items.”

Keep an eye on DNC’s Facebook page and if you can help with a clothes rack, please make contact or call Linda on 5348 3569!

DNC Joke of the Week

A man and his wife were cleaning out their attic when the man found a shoe repair stub in the pocket of an old jacket. “Hey, look at this” he said to his wife.  “This stub is 20 years old.  I wonder if the shop still has the shoes?”

So next day, he went to the shoe repairers and asked the owner if they still had the shoes. The owner disappeared into the back room for about five minutes.

When he returned, he replied happily “Yup, believe it or not, we still have your shoes. They’ll be ready next Thursday.”
