Recently former Prime Minister, Scott Morrison, announced he suffered severed anxiety in the top job. Running a country or presiding over an organisation requires a certain toughness. Carson White, President of the Daylesford Football Netball Club knows first-hand what is required to keep a level head at the helm.
Netball Coach, Carly Post, describes Carson as ‘your classic people person. He is charismatic with a magnetic personality and is very popular because he really loves the club.’
George W Bush once said, ‘A leader is someone who brings people together,’ and Carson White does that in volumes.
Carson, what brought you to Daylesford?
My wife and I were living in Yarraville and wanted to move out of the city. We both grew up in the country and Daylesford seemed like an ideal location to raise a family. In 2008 we made the tree change!
What’s a fun fact about you?
I played comedian Tom Gleeson in a hazmat suit on stage at Crown Casino while filming the Paul Hogan Roast for Channel 7.
What’s your secret spot in Daylesford?
It’s not so secret, but I reckon Lake Daylesford is a fantastic place to swim and have a beer on its shore in summer.
Your mantra is ‘You can’t rationalise irrational thinking.’ What is the best and worst part of being DFNC president?
Best – Watching the club go from strength to strength over the last 8 years and seeing how engaged and connected the players, coaches, parents, volunteers, past players and sponsors are with our journey.
Worst – It’s not “the worst” as such but being the bloke at the top does bring a degree of pressure that I hadn’t expected stepping into the role. Having said that, over the past 8 years this has definitely eased significantly.
What would you do if you won $64m dollars in tattslotto?
I don’t think anyone really knows what they would do if they won this amount of coin until they do but I can tell you for sure there would be a heap of travel with family and friends to some of the more unique, inspiring and wonderous parts of our great planet!
If you could have any superhero power, what would it be and why?
To be able to travel in space…I have a deep fascination with the universe and all its mind bending mysteries!
Describe your most interesting life experience thus far.
I’ve been lucky enough to have a heap of really interesting life experiences but one that stands out is probably travelling through South Africa and being able to spend some time with a group of Cheetah’s…it was crazy to be that close to them!
What would the title of your biography be?
The power of keeping an open mind.
What’s on your fridge door?
Lots of pics of the family, friends and some funny birthday cards.
Describe yourself in a sentence.
Always prepared to try something new (well mostly), keep an open mind about everything, always up for a good laugh, social gathering and values family and friends above everything else.
What advice would you give your 18 year old self?
Keep everything in life in perspective.
Stuck in Wombat Forest for the rest of your eternal life, what three items would you take?
A device to listen to podcasts and music. A telescope and a deep fryer.
Any special deep fryer recipes in your repertoire?
Not a recipe, but you can judge a good fish and chip shop by the quality of its potato cake.
What are you streaming or reading at the moment?
I listen to heaps of podcasts, currently enjoying the Danny Jones podcast.
What do you wish you had more time to do?
Travel.
What’s next for Carson White?
Starting a new business venture…early days but so far looking good!
