An upgraded Central Springs Reserve is becoming a reality for the Daylesford community and visitors to the region with major works now underway.
Member for Ballarat Catherine King today joined with Mayor Brian Hood to inspect the ongoing works to revitalise the Reserve.
The Hon Catherine King and CEO Bradley Thomas sample water from the rejuvenated spring and declared that the water quality was excellent.
The upgrade includes the construction of three Mineral spring pumps, one of which is DDA compliant, to connect to the new bore which was completed in late 2023. This will ensure the ongoing availability of safe mineral water from all of the springs.
To improve the amenity of the space for the significant number of visitors to the Reserve, the project will also deliver a new Djandak inspired shelter with an electric BBQ, new park furniture, landscaping and connecting path network.
Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government Catherine King said, “Hepburn Mineral Springs Reserve is a perfect place for families and many of us have childhood memories of picnicking and pumping water from the springs here. This investment means that families in the future will be able to make the same great memories.”
The $1.47 million project includes $1,113,867 in funding from the Hepburn Shire Council, $350,000 from the Australian Government and $35,000 from the Victorian Government’s Department of Environment, Energy and Climate Action.
Hepburn Shire Mayor, Cr Brian Hood, is confident the works are progressing well. “This wonderful upgrade is expected to be completed in time for Spring this year and was made possible by the Federal Government’s election commitments under the Investing in Our Communities Program,” he said. “This beautiful area will further enhance our vital and growing tourist economy,”
The project which is due for completion in August, is supporting 10 jobs during construction.
