DNC is in the running for an Annual Award

Each year, Neighbourhood Houses Victoria (NHVic) announces awards for excellence in six categories:

  • Reducing Inequalities
  • Community Resilience
  • Climate Action
  • Social Enterprise
  • Gender Equity
  • Good Health and Wellbeing.

The Committee of Management and staff of DNC are delighted to be informed that we are on a shortlist of three to receive the award in the ‘Reducing Inequalities’ category.  It was our provision of shower/laundry facilities for Daylesford’s homeless that attracted the eye of the judges.

The winner will be announced at the NHVic conference in March 2024.

DNC Supports Hepburn Regional Community Cheer

Hepburn Regional Community Cheer was established in 2012 to raise money to support families at Christmas time.

Their ability to give lies with the tireless contribution of their volunteers, the community and their community partners; including Bendigo Bank, Rotary, Daylesford Foundation, Hepburn Shire, Central Highlands Rural Health, Grampians Disability and Farmers Arms.  They all assist with fundraising events and donating both goods and cash.

The Hepburn Regional Community Cheer have had another successful year raising funds to buy toys and gift vouchers, which are distributed on their Day of Giving December 19th at the Town Hall.

If you are eligible (have a Health Care Card and live in the postcodes 3460 or 3461) please register with CHRH on 5321 6550 or visit them in Hospital Street: between November 7th and December 8th.

Donations via Bendigo Bank BSB 633 000 Account 162 925 689 or contact them at infohrcc22@gmail.com or  info@hepburnregionalcommunitycheer.com.au

Mental Health Support for Small Business Owners

Running a small business can be highly stressful.  Long hours, social isolation, cash flow issues and the competing demands of work and home life can leave around a third of small business owners feeling high levels of mental distress.  To address the need for mental health support in this cohort, Beyond Blue has launched New Access for Small Business Owners (NASBO).  NASBO is a free, confidential mental health coaching program designed to support small business owners and help get them back on track.

Neighbourhood Houses Victoria (NHVic) is hosting a free NASBO information session on Wednesday 29th November 2023, 10:00 am – 10:20 am.  Details here:

DNC Joke of the Week

(This joke was submitted by a regular Wombat Post reader who obviously appreciates a good joke!  Why not send in your favourite joke?)

An elderly man rear-ended a guy driving a very expensive European sports car.

Enraged, the driver jumps out and confronts the old man.

He yells “Look what you did to my car!!!  Give me $10,000 now for repairs or I’ll beat you to a pulp!!!”

“Oh my …” says the old man.  “I don’t have that kind of money.  Let me call my son” he says hopefully.  “He trains dolphins.  He’ll know what to do.”

“Dolphins!!??” the other driver huffed, rolling his eyes.

The old man pulled out his phone and just as his son answered the irate man grabbed the phone away.  “So you train DOLPHINS huh??!!!  Well your old man just rear-ended my car and I need $10,000 to repair it right now or I’m going to beat you AND your father to a PULP!!”

“I’ll be there in ten minutes” said the voice calmly from the other end.

Exactly ten minutes later a jeep pulls up and a guy jumps out and proceeds to pulverise the bully leaving him in a heap on the road.

When he finished he walked over to his father and said

“For the last time, Dad I train Seals … Navy Seals!

“NOT DOLPHINS!!”

[If you’ve got a better joke, (and doesn’t everyone??) send it to  admin@dncentre.org.au  and we’ll publish it. (Remember, this is a family publication! ?).  We’ll even include your name if you wish – or you can protect your anonymity!]
