The Dean Kite Festival will be held this Sunday at the Dean Recreation Reserve from 12:00 noon until 4:00 pm..

There will be kite displays and professional, award-winning kite-flying enthusiasts showcasing their wonderfully colourful and novel kites and kite-flying skills.

Take the opportunity to enjoy country hospitality with a sausage sizzle and homemade afternoon tea available. Proceeds from the day go toward managing and upgrading the Reserve.

“As long as we get some good weather, it will be a great day for the whole family,” said Jon Rofe,  a member of the organising committee. “There will be kite enthusiasts from near and far displaying their kites and kite flying skills. Kites 4 Kids will be there to teach the kids how to make a kite of their own to fly and take home.”

This is the 10th kite festival held at the Dean Reserve. The festival is all about participation. There are no contests or prizes except a raffle with proceeds donated to Creswick Anglicare. The festival is an opportunity to meet other kite enthusiasts and to help the kids make and fly a kite of their own.

The Bureau is predicting excellent kite-flying weather – sunny with a top of 15° and light northerly winds during the afternoon.

Dean Recreation Reserve is at 1370 Ballarat-Daylesford Road, Dean. Parking and toilet facilities are available. Entry is free. There is a $10 fee per person for the kite workshop.
