DNC’s new Homeless Shower and Laundry Facility was officially opened on Monday 20 March 2023 in front of a small audience of sponsors and supporters.  This project was borne out of necessity after witnessing, first-hand, homeless people living on our doorstep with no option for showering locally.  At the opening ceremony, the Centre Manager stated: “We have witnessed a high demand for such a facility and as such we’ve been proactive in making this become a reality. This facility is specifically being made available for the homeless and vulnerable in our community.”

It has been a huge success and is greatly appreciated by Daylesford community members who have fallen on hard times.

There has been a constant flow of users – 16 regular and semi-regular users over the period since opening.

The reasons users have given for needing this facility have included:

  • Unable to pay gas bill for hot water / disconnection,
  • Lifestyle choice (bush living),
  • Homelessness, and
  • Unable to afford the cost of hot water service replacement.

In this Homelessness Week, this facility reminds us that there are a number of people who rely entirely on our services and those of the other community support organisations for their most basic needs.

If you or anyone you know needs to use our shower/laundry facility, contact our manager on 5348 3569.

DNC Joke of the Week

A man told the circus manager that he was interested in working as a lion tamer. The manager asked if he had any experience.

The man said, “Yes, my father was one of the most famous lion trainers in the world, he taught me everything he knows.”

“Really?” said the ringmaster. “Did he teach you how to leap a lion through a ring of fire?”

“Yes, he did,” replied the man.

“And he taught you to build a pyramid with six lions?”

“Yes, he did,” replied the man.

“And have you ever stuck your head in a lion’s mouth?”

“Just once,” the man replied.

The manager asked, “Why only once?”

The man said: “I was looking for my father.”
