Two weeks ago, The Wombat Post featured an article about Ensemble Pompadour, a musical duo who will be performing a concert at Christ Church in Daylesford on Saturday July 29.
Hepburn Community Radio caught with one half of the ensemble, Simon Rickard, for a chat about his musical background and his interest in historical instruments.
Simon Rickard is primarily a specialist in historical bassoons, from the 16th to the 18th centuries. He is also a leading exponent of a bizarre renaissance woodwind instrument called the racket and the baroque musette, the smallest and poshest member of the bagpipe family.
Simon has a parallel career in gardening. Formerly head gardener of the Diggers club, overseeing the much-loved gardens of Heronswood and the Garden of St Erth, Simon now runs his own garden design and communication consultancy.
