If you’re looking for something to do on Sunday (and you’ve already visited the exhibit at the Daylesford Museum), you might think about a self drive day tour around the Dja Dja Wurrung landscape to celebrate the end of Reconciliation week.
The Reading the Country at Contact tour starts in Daylesford and takes in Lalgambook (Mt Franklin), the Big Tree at Guildford and the Hepburn family gravesite. The route follows historically important paths around the Shire including Major Mitchell’s route through the area and well travelled Aboriginal highways. There are views of the Loddon River, the Guildford plains and Mount Kooroocheang.
There are some very good places to stop for lunch or refreshments along the way including the Guildford General Store, Dig Cafe in Newstead, the Swiss Mountain Hotel in Blampied.
A description and notes about the tour can be downloaded from https://visithepburnshire.com.au/reconciliation-week-2019-self-drive/. A brochure is available at the Daylesford Visitor Information Centre.
