Northern Lights Coming to Daylesford

The Northern Lights are coming to Daylesford – not an astronomical event but an innovative, laser light display titled “Borealis” by internationally renowned Swiss artist Dan Archer.

Throughout the ages, we have attributed countless legends to the celestial phenomenon of the Aurora Borealis and Aurora Australis. About his installation, the artist said, “Borealis is about our ancestral communion with nature and our more recent compulsion to control it. It’s about inspiring shared emotions in the center of a city by creating something magical – something that shouldn’t naturally be there.

The show has toured the world and was recently a highlight of the Adelaide Fringe Festival.

“Borealis on the Lake” will recreate the natural phenomenon of the northern lights over Lake Daylesford every Thursday to Sunday from 15 July – 4 September. The installation has been supported by funds from the State government’s Regional Events Fund and sponsored locally by Belle Property Daylesford.

Borealis on the Lake is expected to attract thousands of visitors to the Daylesford and Macedon Ranges region, supporting the regional tourism ecomomy. Visitors to Borealis on the Lake will have the chance to experience all that the region has to offer including local food and wine, natural springs and day spas, art galleries and shopping experiences.

Since 2016, the Government’s Regional Events Fund has helped deliver more than 280 events across the state.
