A proposal to build 15 single bedroom suites as tourist accommodation at 40-42 Vincent Street in Daylesford has been submitted to Council.
Each suite would contain a kitchenette and ensuite. Eight suites are proposed on the ground floor and seven suites for the first floor. The two wings of accommodation would be separated by staff accommodation.
Six single bedroom suites for staff are also proposed – each with a kitchenette and ensuite. Parking for 18 vehicles would be provided, including four electric vehicle charging stations. Extensive use of solar panels is proposed.
The proposal is estimated to cost $4.5 million on two residential blocks with an area of 1700 square metres. The design seeks to minimise the visual impact on the character of the area by having the majority of the built form at the rear of the land.
The proposed accommodation is a significant tourist development on on the main road between Daylesford and Hepburn Springs in a mainly residential area of single dwellings.
The staff accommodation is proposed as part of the development to address problems of finding suitable accommodation for staff in the Daylesford – Hepburn Springs area.
There has been considerable local comment about the proposal, much of it expressing more concerns about the pace and scale of tourist development more generally in Daylesford.
