With a change to Suez for kerbside collection, our recycling is going to a different materials recycling facility (MRF). As a result, there as some changes to the requirements for recycled materials that are acceptable. Please take note of these specific requirements.
The following can be recycled:
- Paper and cardboard. Cardboard boxes and containers should be flattened.
- Steel and aluminium cans. This does not include scrap metal.
- Empty aerosol cans Aerosol cans such as deodorant or air freshener.
- Glass bottles and jars.ย Metal lids should be removed and placed separately in the recycling bin.
- Plastics such as milk and juice bottles. Only plastics labelled 1 (PET), 2 (HDPE) or 5 (PP) can be recycled. Other plastics should be placed in the landfill bin. Plastic tops should be removed from plastic bottles and placed in your landfill bin if you can’t repurpose them.
Items in your bin should be empty and dry and free of food or drink waste.
The following should not be placed in the recycling bin:
- Liquid paperboard such as milk cartons or UHT containers.
- Unlabelled plastics or plastics labelled 3 (PVC), 4 (LDPE), 6(PS) or 7 (Other).
- Waxed cardboard.
- Plastic plant pots, toys, toilet seats, garden hoses.
The following can be recycled for free at the Council’s transfer stations:
- Aluminium cans
- Newspapers and magazines
- Cardboard and mixed paper
- Steel cans including aerosols
- Batteries (car and all household types)
- Timber (good clean, reusable, non-toxic, at the discretion of the Transfer Station attendant)
- Fluoro lights
- Scrap metals (all types)
- Electrical devices
- Motor Oil
- Gas bottles
- Empty paint cans
