Healthy Lunch Kitchen – Cooking for Wellbeing

Are you looking for:

  • A healthy boost of ideas on what to cook that is in season?
  • New ideas and inspiration on cooking for one?
  • Fun and learning with a small group?

The Healthy Lunch Kitchen is a social enterprise that has been delivering nourishing food across the Hepburn Shire, especially to primary schools over the past two years.  Run by a health promotion charity, Health Futures Australia, the kitchen provides healthy school lunches already to 6 schools, and provides community and family take-home meals – all packed with goodness and as much local produce as possible.

DNC is partnering with the Healthy Lunch Kitchen to deliver a cooking class with a touch of health!

What you will learn about in the class:

  • to prepare, and cook a dish that is perfect for one
  • to learn about nourishing food
  • to use local seasonal produce in the dish
  • to meet others who want to connect and share food

These classes will be delivered by DNC, in partnership with Health Futures Australia-Healthy Lunch Kitchen, and supported by a Hepburn Shire Council Community Grant.  The venue for the class will be the Hepburn Golf Club.

Class theme: “Cooking for One on a Budget”

It is designed for anyone who lives alone and cooks mostly for themselves, or doesn’t cook but would like to reconnect with people in a small cooking class that uses local fresh produce and has new ideas for nourishing quick meals.

This class will prepare beautiful meat and veggie dumplings and ravioli using as much local and seasonal produce as possible.  The Healthy Lunch Kitchen cook – Robyn Rogers – is an expert dumpling and ravioli maker.  Robyn will share tips and ideas and will demonstrate how quick and easy dumplings and ravioli can be.  They are also great as they can also be frozen and eaten another day by themselves or in a broth with veggies.

Date and time: 20 April 4.00 to 6.00pm

Cost: $15 pp (Includes a cooking lesson hosted by one of the Healthy Lunch Kitchens amazing local cooks, all ingredients, and a shared meal at the end of the class.)

Venue: Hepburn Golf Club, 36 Golf Links Road, Hepburn

Bookings: Click on this link to book.

DNC Joke of the Week

A wife complains to her husband: “Just look at that couple down the road, how lovely they are. He keeps holding her hand, kissing her, holding the door for her, why can’t you do the same?”   The husband: “Are you mad? I barely know the woman!”

[If you’ve got a better joke, send it to  admin@dncentre.org.au and we’ll publish it. (Remember, this is a family publication! ?).  We’ll even include your name if you wish – or you can protect your anonymity!]
