The Daylesford Community Now Has a Homeless Shower & Laundry Facility!

DNC is very proud to announce that our long-awaited homeless shower and laundry facility is now open for business!

DNC’s new Homeless Shower and Laundry Facility was officially opened on Monday in front of a small audience of sponsors and supporters.  This project was borne out of necessity after witnessing, first-hand, homeless people living on our doorstep with no option for showering locally.  At the opening ceremony, The Centre Manager stated: “We have witnessed a high demand for such a facility and as such we’ve been proactive in making this become a reality. This facility is specifically being made available for the homeless and vulnerable in our community.”

DNC wish to thank our sponsors for supporting our idea and for helping our project come to fruition.  The facility has been constructed in an external building and has a disability-compliant shower.  Towels and bath mats are provided and a washing machine and dryer are also available for use.  Toiletries and a supply of clean clothes are on offer, if required.

The DNC Committee of Management, staff and volunteers are grateful to Hepburn Shire Council, Central Highlands Rural Health, Community Bank Daylesford District and the Department of Family, Fairness & Housing for assisting with funding and for their support for our vision.  We would also like to thank the Daylesford Community OpShop for supplies of clothes and toiletries to be distributed as and when the need arises.

Members of the community who are in need of a shower are welcome to phone or come to the Centre during business hours (03 5348 3569).  We can provide a towel and toiletries and a friendly face.

DNC Annual General Meeting

The DNC AGM will be held at the Centre at 6.00pm on 26 April 2023.  Put it in your calendar.  Please join us.  Annie Duncan, President of Daylesford U3A will be our guest speaker. Annie has had an illustrious career as one of Australia’s leading science researchers.  She will be speaking about her involvement with and encouragement of women in science.  Light refreshments will be served.

Come along and hear how the DNC provides invaluable service to the Daylesford community.  And maybe you’d like to join our happy band of volunteers.  This would be a good forum to take that first step.

DNC Joke of the Week

A mother thinks there’s something strange going on and eventually decides to take a DNA test.  She finds out that their child is actually not related to her or her husband at all.
Wife: “Darling, there’s something really important that we need to talk about.  I did a DNA test and Roger isn’t our biological child.”
Husband: “Of course he isn’t, don’t you remember? We were just leaving the hospital and the baby pooped hugely so you told me, ‘Go and change the baby, I’ll wait here.’”

[If you’ve got a better joke, send it to  admin@dncentre.org.au and we’ll publish it. (Remember, this is a family publication! ?).  We’ll even include your name if you wish – or you can protect your anonymity!]
