Zandrina Tacey Retrospective Art Exhibition at The Convent, Daylesford.

The Convent Gallery in Daylesford is proud to present the Zandrina Tacey Retrospective.

A Celebration of Colour, Culture & an Extraordinary Life. Immerse yourself in the vibrant, adventurous world of Zandrina Tacey – an artist whose work is as bold, colourful and culturally alluring as the life she lived. From India to Pakistan, Indonesia to New Guinea, Zandrina captured the spirit, stories and beauty of the people and places she loved.

Born in Tatura in 1953, Zandrina Tacey was educated at Sacred Coeur in Melbourne. She travelled extensively, visiting New Guinea, trekking in Nepal and living in Pakistan for several years. Returning to Australia, Zandrina studied art in Melbourne and held exhibitions of her work in Melbourne and Canberra before settling in Daylesford in 1987. She was a bright and colourful character within the community and a regular participant in local poetry evenings, exhibitions and other events.

In 2004 the Daylesford and Hepburn Springs mourned the death of artist and poet Zandrina Tacey.  Her life was cut short after a 6-year battle with cancer.  Zandrina’s life lives on through her artwork. She left behind a wonderful legacy of magnificent artworks hidden in her studio, only found after her death.  The upcoming exhibition at The Convent will be exhibiting many of these pieces.

Zandrina drew inspiration from travels, dreams, and interactions with others.  She envisioned a world that was happy and free with the interlocking of angels, goddesses, and the environment as protectors. She addressed the relationships of love between individuals, families, nature, society, and the world.  Zandrina was a compatriot of Mirka Mora and as such she had had an influence on the development of contemporary art.

This exhibition celebrates the plenitude of luminescent, enchanting artworks that she completed in the last years of her life.

In addition to the exhibition, the winner of the inaugural Zandrina Tacey Artist Scholarship will be announced at the opening, on Saturday the 3rd of October.

“This scholarship is about celebrating creativity, honouring passion, and supporting artists who may not otherwise have the means to take the next step in their careers.”  –  Pam Rudd (nee Tacey).

The $10,000 scholarship will provide funding for practical costs such as exhibition preparation, framing, and materials, ensuring that promising artists have the support needed to share their work with the world.

The exhibition will run from Thursday 1st of October until the 23rd of November.
