Art for Expression and a Better Life – New Art Course Commencing October 6

This new 8-week ACFE program is for you if you are interested in creating a richer life experience through art making.  With a focus on watercolour and ink, we will be exploring materials and techniques whilst discovering how the practice of making art will positively inform the rest of your day.

Commencing: 10am  Friday 6 October for 8 weeks
Tutor: Sophia Cosmas
Cost: $275 (incl. a 50% subsidy on course materials)

Content.  Throughout the course students will be:

  • exploring colour mixing and looking at how to use colour for impact
  • mark making and line work
  • sketching from life, from photos and from your imagination
  • building a playful workbook of ideas and methods to carry you beyond the class and into your own practice and given the time of year, if you choose, making unique and meaningful seasonal gifts.

Subsidy.  A 50% subsidised starter pack of specially curated materials will be provided as part of the course fee, so all you need to do on the day is show up and be prepared to jump in.

Tutor.  This program has been put together by Sophia Cosmas, a dedicated and enthusiastic artist with a daily practice involving exploration and experimentation, commissions and other fine art work. Newly resident in Hepburn Shire with her son, pups and guinea pig, she is excited to share her knowledge and experience with Shire residents for the first time.

DNC Joke of the Week

A young Melbourne woman found a magic bottle, rubbed it, and out popped a genie. The amazed woman asked if she got three wishes.

The genie said “Nope, sorry, three-wish genies are a storybook myth.  I’m a one-wish genie.  So, what will it be?”

The woman did not hesitate.  She said “I want a bridge from Melbourne to Tasmania so I can visit my parents there”.

The genie looked at the map and exclaimed “Lady, be reasonable!!!.  I’m out of shape after being in a bottle for five hundred years.  I’m good, but not THAT good!  I don’t think it can be done.  Make another wish and please be reasonable.”

The woman thought for a minute and said “Well, I’ve never been able to find the right man.  You know – one that’s considerate and fun, romantic, likes to cook and help with the house cleaning, and gets along with my family, doesn’t watch sports all the time, and is faithful.  That is what I wish for, a good man.”

The genie let out a sigh and said, “Let me see the darn map again.”

[If you’ve got a better joke, (and doesn’t everyone??) send it to  and we’ll publish it. (Remember, this is a family publication! ?).  We’ll even include your name if you wish – or you can protect your anonymity!]
