Twenty-one people were delighted on Wednesday evening by an address to the DNC Annual General Meeting by Dr Annie Duncan. Annie, a local identity, prominent scientist, and most recently Chair of the Daylesford U3A, enthralled the audience with tales of her life-journey through the ‘man’s world’ of science and her endeavours to support and encourage girls and young women in science careers.
The meeting heard from the Chair of the DNC Committee of Management, Hal Swerissen, that our healthy financial reserves, coming out of the difficult COVID years, give us the opportunity in the coming years to pursue increased revenue initiatives to consolidate DNC’s ongoing service to the community. He praised the work of the Committee of Management and thanked the permanent and part-time staff and volunteers for going ‘above and beyond’ in working to support the Daylesford community.
The DNC Manager, Danny Liversidge, highlighted lead role played by the DNC in establishing combined community efforts to relieve homelessness in Hepburn Shire by facilitating meetings of all relevant community agencies. DNC took the lead in establishing a free shower and laundry facility which has attracted national attention and is already receiving lots of use by those in need.
Other performance highlights included a 62% increase in visitations to the Centre (a total of 3792), 128 graduates of our work-skills courses and the welcoming of the Daylesford U3A as a partner and tenant.
Two new local identities, Raquel Stevens and Sue Dyson were elected to the Committee of Management to replace long-term member Arthur Papapostolou and Treasurer Paul Dowler, both of whom were thanked by Chairman Hal Swerissen for their work with the Committee.

DNC Joke of the Week
A man walks into a shop and sees a very handsome dog. He asks the shop assistant “Does your dog bite?” “No, my dog doesn’t bite.”
The man happily tries to pet the dog, but the dog attacks him viciously. He stumbles to the shop clerk, “Hey, you said your dog doesn’t bite!” The shop clerk shrugs, “He doesn’t. But that isn’t my dog.”
[If you’ve got a better joke, (and doesn’t everyone??) send it to email@example.com and we’ll publish it. (Remember, this is a family publication! ?). We’ll even include your name if you wish – or you can protect your anonymity!]
