Local residents and visitors are invited to enjoy the magic of a wonderfully transformed streetscape to celebrate Spring optimism later this month.
Sprout: A Celebration of Spring will happen on the weekend of 19th to 21st November. It is an initiative of the Daylesford and District Horticultural Society in association with Friends of Wombat Hill Botanic Gardens.
Selena Smith, President of the Daylesford and District Horticultural Society, said, “Horti members and the Friends created ‘Sprout’ to bring brightness and joy to the community. We love growing things and sharing their beauty with other people. And we wanted to thank our local traders for coping during the past two years.”
Shop fronts in the main streets of Daylesford and surrounds will be transformed with gorgeous floral decorations to bring an air of optimism and joy to the region. This will be achieved by talented floral stylists and over 40 community groups working together to create 120 installations from magnificent local floral produce and foliage.
Gardeners and growers from our local community are donating their produce for floral displays. Community group members are engaging their creativity to transform our streetscape through their designs. Local traders have enthusiastically participated by providing a venue for the installations. The ‘Sprout’ leadership team have volunteered their time, energy and resourcefulness to run the event. ‘Sprout’ has been made financially possible through substantial sponsorship from the Hepburn Shire Council and the Community Bank Daylesford District. Residents and visitors will enjoy the displays for free. There is no cost to local traders other than providing a space.
The aim of ‘Sprout’ is to bring people to the streets of Daylesford and district to celebrate new beginnings and provide a sense of optimism for the future. It reflects the notion of new life, growth and the cheerfulness of Spring.
Selena added: “The success of ‘Sprout’ is due to contributions by our whole community. If you want to help, please contact the Hortis or Friends. Over the ‘Sprout’ weekend we hope you will wear a bright outfit and enjoy our celebration!”
