Hepburn Shire Council has produced a series of online videos featuring business people from each of the major townships in Hepburn Shire.

The new videos, showcasing the broad range of industries across our region, promote the Go Local First initiative which is encouraging local people to put local businesses first.

“From your local electrician, butcher, florist and pub, Hepburn Shire is lucky to have so many great businesses and now is the time to continue showing them your support,” Hepburn Shire Council CEO, Evan King, said.

Go Local First reminds us to choose local businesses when we are purchasing products, goods and services to help get the economy back on its feet, keep locals in jobs and money in local communities. “Don’t forget to keep an eye out for the Go Local sign when shopping right across our Shire.”

Although many businesses have struggled along with reduced income, most industries across the Shire have maintained steady employment since March. However, employment has dropped by 6% overall with both retail and accommodation and hospitality losing around 13% of their employees up to September (REMPLAN data).

“We know that our small businesses are the heartbeat of our community and, when they thrive, we all benefit.” Mr King said. “With Christmas only a few weeks away, what better way to support your local townships than buying your presents locally. Support the businesses that give our towns their unique character and show them how much they mean to you.”

The four new videos, one for each of Daylesford/Hepburn, Trentham, Clunes and Creswick, can be viewed on the Hepburn Shire Council YouTube Channel.

Mr King thanked all the businesses who took part in the initiative.
